Valencia oranges, usually thin-skinned with zero to nine seeds are considered one of the best oranges for juicing. Its excellent taste and internal color also make it desirable for eating as a fresh fruit. William Wolfskill hybridized the variety in the mid-19th century and named it for Valencia, Spain, which had a reputation for sweet orange trees. Before his death in 1866, Wolfskill sold his patented Valencia hybrid to the Irvine Ranch owners, who planted nearly half their lands to its cultivation. The success of this crop in Southern California led to the naming of Valencia, California and it became the most popular juice orange in the United States. Our One Year-Old Trees are generally 12"-16" tall with a trunk diameter of about 1/4". They are growing in a 4 x 9" container of soil. Within a month of delivery, it is best to repot into a larger container (~8-10" diameter) to give the roots more room to grow. Trees are shipped within 7 to 10 days of orders being placed.
