The abstract patterns on the reverses of the First Series Banknotes did not meet with enthusiasm. The faces in the Second Series featured characteristic people in Israel, while this time, the reverses depicted archeological subjects – signifying old and new. They were put into circulation in 1955 and ceased to be legal tender in 1984.
