Additional Information: Reversible, signed wall tapestry by artists from the Shangaan Tribe, Mozambique, southeastern Africa. The design and style is unique to these Mozambican artists. The artist creates an and unique design (in wax) then dips and drysthe batik repeatedly in the sun, until achieving the desired effect. The hot wax holds and resists as the dyes are brushed or dipped onto the piece of cotton material (fabric). The Batik is offered unframed so that the purchaser may choose how best to display it, choosing the style and color to match an existing décor/theme or suit remodeling. Being handcrafted no two tapestries, however similar, are identical. It shows best when light is allowed to illuminate it from behind on a clear glass or similar backing, however, it shows equally well on a backing or as a wall hanging. Folds or creases in the batik are easily straightened by overlaying with clear paper and applying a low heat iron. Batik is an ancient art using colorful dyes and hot wax that has been embraced by many artists throughout Africa. Combined with African ingenuity and talent the artists produce original works of art.
