A tendril climber from Mexico, its heart-shaped leaves are lovely year-round, and in late summer, can be completely hidden by the profusion of bright pink blooms that brings butterflies and hummingbirds. -It is fast growing to 25 feet or more, it quickly covers a trellis, fence or hillside. Perennial in zones 9-11, it will be leveled by frost, but grows back from underground tubers. If you live in the north, overwinter a potful indoors. Plant it in full sun or part shade in any kind of soil. Once established, it's drought-tolerant, even tolerates air pollution. This vine is a great problem-solver, it will cascade down a sun-scorched hillside or cover a wall in a season. It's also lovely enough to feature in a hanging basket on your patio.
