The pile of these rugs is thick lustrous wool, handspun from local sheep. The wool is grown on sheep grazing at high altitudes in cold weather. The result is durable, lustrous soft wool unmatched by any other, especially after being dyed with natural colors.It is then woven on cotton warp and weft. There can be a range of style from coarse to very fine. Very fine examples can even be of raw silk warp and double weft of cotton with silk pile.The weavers are tribal with Turkish origin so they use predominantly the Turkish knot in the weaving of their rugs.
