The Amano shrimp is a great addition if you are looking for an invertebrate to help clean your tank. They were introduced into the aquarium hobby by the legendary tank designer Takashi Amano in the early 1980's. They are commonly referred to as Japanese Shrimp, Yamato Shrimp, and Amano's Shrimp. These shrimp are originally from freshwater streams in Japan and Taiwan.

We recommend using these shrimp in a well planted tank for controlling algae growth. Caution should be taken to have a secured lid due to their tendency to climb. These shrimp can be added with other shrimp but caution should be taken when adding with fish, fish will most likely eat them.
