DESCRIPTION
The word Zimbabwe means house of stone based on the Great Zimbabwean ruins. The Shona have been stone carvers for centuries and are some the best stone carvers on the African continent. The sculpture signifies the importance of the family in African culture. The stone used for the carving is fetched from quarries which are sometimes up to 100 miles away from the village where the artist works. Each stone is different and contains a variety of colors, striations and naturally occurring lines. The sculptures are fragile. Kindly note that the dimensions may vary up to 1/2 an inch due to final finishing.
