Harvester ants use their large mandibles to grind seeds into "ant bread" which is placed in storage areas called granaries which can be found in their nest year round. Seeds are a stable diet for harvester ants. We suggest you feed them a few seeds every week. It gives them energy and they live longer. Harvester ants can be found collecting seeds as far away as50 to 60 KM from their nest. They use their trails to navigate back to their nest. Harvester ants are known to aid seed dispersal via Myrmecochory. When feeding your ants Crazy Stuff Ant Food just add a few seeds at a time to your colony. Too many seeds may cause a build up of bacteria. This is a big no no in a ant farm or gel colony.
