Karl Blossfeldt (1865-1932) was a German photographer known for his extreme closeup portraits of botanical specimens. Despite having no formal training in photography, Blossfeldt constructed his own camera equipment to be able to magnify his subjects up to 30x. He first published his images in 1928 (when he was in his 60s) in a book entitled "Urformen der Kunst" which became an immediate sensation.
