This jadeite jade carving of two powerful legendary animals is one of the most unusual I have seen, with its unique natural green, orange, and gray coloration. This cameo amulet depicts a phoenix and kirin, the phoenix aloft, flying above the kirin, its tail spread across the carving in four feathery extrusions, its two legs stretched out. Beside the phoenix are flower blossoms and clouds. Under the phoenix are more blossoms and the beautifully carved kirin. its head turned to look backward and upward, as if viewing the phoenix. The bail is sterling silver suspending the pendant from a 24 inch link sterling silver chain, the links harmonizing with the perimeter carvings of the pendant. The presence of two powerful legendary animals is said to lend the amulet the power of their sacred protection.
