• The 1989 Gulf of Sidra Incident took place in the Mediterranean Sea on the morning of January 4. Two Libyan MiG-23s took off from Al Bumbah Airfield and headed directly toward two F-14A Tomcats of VF-32, operating off the USS John F. Kennedy. The American warbirds changed course five times, indicating that they did not wish to engage, each time being followed by the Libyan fighters. Ultimately, when the enemies failed to change course, the F-14s fired their Sparrow and Sidewinder missiles, destroying both MiGs. Each of the pilots successfully ejected but died when they failed to be rescued. Made by Hobby Master, this 1/72 scale, die cast model - a replica of the #159437 that took down a Libyan aircraft on that fateful day, painted with the silhouette of its victim on the front end (though this was removed prior to returning from its cruise) - features engraved panel lines, an opening canopy, a well-equipped two-seat cockpit with instrument panels, two removable pilot figures, realistic air intake and afterburning engine exhaust nozzles, a lethal assortment of weaponry (including drop tanks, and Sidewinder/Sparrow missiles), position-able swept wings, optional-position landing gear, authentic markings, and a stylish presentation stand. Measures approximately 10.25 in long with a 10.75 in wingspan.
