But Cold stratification improve it's germination rate by 3 times!! I highly recommend you to do it. 1. Mix seeds with moist peat moss in a ziplock bag. Store them in fridge for at least month. 2. Prepare your planting medium. Black pine seeds can tolerate sand, but prefer rich soil. When you're starting seeds, you should give them as much nutrition as possible, so use a good potting soil for this step. Start seeds in 6-inch pots to give them plenty of growing room. 3. Soak the seeds in water for at least 24 hours before you plant them. This will soften the husks and prepare the seeds for germination. 4. Sow two seeds in each pot, but leave space between the two seeds. Place the seeds end-down in the soil, and push them about 1/8 inch into the soil. Cover them with soil and tamp it down. 5. Cover the seeds with a 1-inch layer of mulch or compost to protect them from the elements. Water the pots until the mulch and soil is moist but not wet. Water the seeds once a week, but don't over water. Allow the soil to dry slightly between each watering. Keep the pots in full sun, and fertilize with an acidic fertilizer once the black pine seedlings sprout.
