Large 'Kashmiri' cushion covers with the front completely hand-embroidered using chain-stitch in silk. These cushion covers are size 45x45 cm and are available only as a set of 4. Only the front is embroidered whereas the back is plain with a zipper provided to fill in the cushion. Chain stitch embroidery, also alternately called 'Crewel embroidery' is one of the most celebrated traditional handmade arts of Kashmir. Chain-stitch or crewel is done with a hooked needle called 'Aari' and is worked from underneath the fabric rather than above. Tiny stitches using wool or silk threads cover the entire area of the base Hessian or cotton fabric. The designs range from floral patterns to animals and human forms. Figures or motifs of beautiful flowers, mystic birds, colorful butterflies, chinar leaves are worked in striking colors while the background is a single color. Care tips: Dry clean only.
