Kuba Leele Beaded Headress Mask Congo African Art
DESCRIPTION
A decorated face mask with woven raffia headdress decorating the top and sides. Ornate patterns of shells and glass beads adorn the pannels. This face mask is attributed to the Kuba and shows some similarities with the Leele people. Masks made by the Leele differ somewhat from the Kuba masks in that Kuba masks are heavily decorated with bead and have bold traits. On this mask, the hairline, the form of the eyes, nose, and mouth are Kuba. Recommended Reading: Cornet's ART ROYAL KUBA, Mack's EMIL TORDAY AND THE ART OF THE CONGO 1900-1909.
