The California Honey is an early-spring ripening mandarin, similar to the Murcott with its rich, extremely sweet flavor. It is so productive that it may need thinning for larger fruit. Lots of seeds, but the thin skin is easy to peel and well worth the effort. Fruit ripens Jan. - April There are a number of ways to use tangerines and other fruits from the mandarin family. Many people enjoy eating them straight, since they peel easily and the segments usually pull apart with minimal effort. These fruits can also be added to fruit salads, used in jams and jellies, pureed in citrus sauces, and added to breads and sweet treats. In some cultures, exchanging mandarins for the holidays is a common tradition, with fruits which have retained their leaves being especially lucky. Our One Year-Old Trees are generally 12"-16" tall with a trunk diameter of about 1/4". They are growing in a 4 x 9" (or in a few cases a 4" x 6") container of soil. Within a month of delivery, it is best to repot into a larger container (~8-10" diameter) to give the roots more room to grow. Trees are shipped within 7 to 10 days of orders being placed.
