These diminutive plants produce a sparse clump of linear leaves from a compact corm-like stem. Up to ten creamy-white blooms with yellow anthers top unbranched flower scapes in early spring. Following the bloom period, plants go dormant with the onset of summer. Uses/Culture: Grouped or massed in mixed beds and borders, container gardening. Performs best in sandy to loamy, well-drained soils with full sun. Requires regular water throughout the growing season and drier soil during the dormant period. In cooler climates can be over-wintered in a frost free area. Germination Requirements: Germination occurs in 4-8 weeks under warm (55-64F), moist conditions; warmer temperatures may delay germination. Sow direct to the garden after danger of frost has passed in spring or 6-8 weeks prior to last expected frost date for first season blooms. Smoke treatment has shown to improve germination times and results.
