When Indian Parliament was shaken by Mr KC Tyagi, Memeber of Parliament, accusing Baba Ramdev that he sells medicine, in the name of Putrajeevak Beej, guaranteeing the birth of Male child, we at were pondering whether it is proper for us to sell Mala or Rosary of same seeds. Is it unethical for us? If Baba Ramdev is doing wrong for selling these seeds for consuming as Ayurvedic medicine, how can we be right selling same seeds as Mala or Rosary. Putrajeevak Beej (Latin Name- Putranjiva Roxburghii) is a seed of an evergreen tree, which flowers and fructifies in the months of March to May. Various plants of this medicinal tree are used for various purposes. Bark of this tree is used to treat bites of venomous insects. But the most popular use of this plant is use of the seeds of this tree. Although, as name of Putrajeevi Rosary indicates, many believe that consumption of Putrajeevak seeds ensure male progeny or child. As per our knowledge, Baba Ramdeo never endorsed directly or indirectly, above belief. Despite of his outspokenness, while making all type of claims about Ayurvedic medicines, he never uttered such a claim, directly or indirectly. Actually, he had simply claimed, and rightfully so, that that this wonderful Ayurvedic medicine is a very good cure for female infertility. Putrajivi Beej or Putrajeevak Seeds is the classical Ayurvedic name of this medicine, literal meaning of which is 'Life Giver to Son'. When Baba Ramdev is himself denying that this medicine has nothing to do sex determination of the child; we should believe him. Perhaps, this name was given due to primacy given to the sons as compared to the daughters, in the Indian society. Or it may be without any apparent reason.
