The Ollihess M174 can be likened to the Paiste M1. While the obvious difference are the fabrics on the heads, the Ollihess handle is wood and the Paiste is a metal tube, there are some subtle differences. The mallets are similar in total weight, yet they feel different when you hold them. The Paiste mallet has more of a balanced weight from top to bottom, while the Ollihess with its shorter slightly thicker handle can feel more sturdy in your hand. The Ollihess gives you great quick response for gentle playing or rolling two mallets on the gong. An extra benefit to the taper at the bottom is that your hand, if it slips, knows where the bottom of handle is. Another minor difference: the Paiste mallets have a rope at the bottom for hanging, while the Ollihess mallets come in there own cotton drawstring bag.
