This rectifier is for motorcycles with single phase charging systems. There are 4 leads, 2AC and 2 DC. The rectifier receives AC power from the stator and converts it into DC power for the battery. This is a great replacement for the original selenium rectifier, these are more efficient, run cooler and put out more consistant power than the originals. Before installing a new rectifier, make sure your alternator is putting out the proper amount of AC current and all the connections are clean and making proper contact.
