Zingiber rubens is a species from Nepal region and is a very cold hardy ginger. It grows about 1.2 m high with typical Zingiber foliage and very pretty bright red bracts blooming on short stems at ground level. The flowers are edible and are showy pale yellow with dark red speckling. The rhizomes are used in Indian medicine.
