DESCRIPTION

The Gizmo Dorks Polypropylene (PP) filament is a new semi crystalline thermoplastic used in Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM). The versatile plastic is used in our everyday lives in the form of packaging, labeling, lab equipment, stationery, and more. One of the most beneficial uses of Polypropylene is to create food safe containers because Polypropylene is odorless and nontoxic. Although Polypropylene is recognized as FDA safe for food, the inherent process of creating printed objects from current 3D printing standards are most likely not FDA safe because a 3D printed object will have a porous structure, a perfect growth site for bacteria. If the nozzle is made of brass, then lead might leach into the print.

Printing temperature is between 225 - 250°C. Extrusion temperatures may go even higher, depending upon if a stronger layer adhesion is needed for the specific part. Please check if your 3D printer can print at high temperatures, as some printer parts may break down at high temperatures. Polypropylene has a considerable amount of warp. For best results, heat the build platform to 120°C, depending on the print surface.

*Special note on the print surface - Polypropylene filament does not adhere well to typical 3D print surfaces such as Kapton tape, PEI, glass, etc. The plastic filament will adhere to packing tape because most packing tapes are made out of polypropylene, although some packing tapes are made out of polyester, which will not work. An alternative to packing tape is HDPE. Cheap cutting boards are sometimes made out of HDPE. Please use a lower extrusion temperature of 190°C when printing the first layer on to HDPE, as higher temperatures may be very hard to remove after the print is finished.
