'Great Expectations' Hosta lives up to its name. A slow grower, but well worth waiting for! This hosta is on the receiving end for many awards from the American Hosta Society. It has received the Alex J. Summers Distinguished Merit Award 1992, President's Exhibitor Trophy 1994, Best Variegated Leaf Award 1994, and Best Variegated Hosta in a Garden Award 1997. A sport of 'Elgins' Hosta, this superb specimen has wide, irregular, blue-green margins with bold golden-yellow centers that change to a creamy white. From midsummer to late summer, 'Great Expectations' has dense masses of white flowers displayed just above a sturdy mound of foliage on 24" scapes. Mature plant size produces dome-shaped clumps 20" tall and 40" spread. 'Great Expectations' does best in moist, fertile, but well-drained soil with morning sun or very open shade to grow properly. Hardiness zones 3-9.
