DESCRIPTION
Handmade Gambel's Quail Totem Round Porcelain Pendant
This desert southwest bird is recognized by its tubby build and distinctive comma-shaped tuft of feathers atop its head. Rarely seen in flight, Gambel's quail scurry about in groups called coveys, as they search the brush for food. Populations remain stable today, influenced more by temperatures and rainfall, rather than predation and hunting. Coveys may contain 100 birds walking slowly as they feed, or when disturbed, running wildly together from cover to cover.
Did you know?
These quail are divided into 9 genera and 32 species. Many quail have a crest or plume, sometimes called a topknot, on their heads. California Quail live in coveys and enjoy community dust baths. Mountain Quail and Gambel's Quail are monogamous. Many quail chicks are precocial, which means relatively mature and mobile from the moment of hatching, so can leave the nest with their parents. The Scaled Quail, also called Blue Quail or Cottontop, has a feather pattern that looks like scales. The Bobwhite Quail is the official game bird Tennessee, Georgia, and Washington State. The Gorgeted Wood Quail is on the verge of extinction.
The unique making process of these porcelain pendants allows for more detail in designs than other mediums. These designs are fired into the clay at 2200 degrees, so they will not peel or wear off. Each piece is surprisingly lightweight and finished to a beautiful satin touch, and individually packaged in a box.
Approx. Pendant size : 3.1 centimetre in diameter. Weight of the pendant : 6 grams.
Comes with a 2 mm flat link stainless steel chain of 22 inch length(18+4 Inch Extender) and a lead free pewter accent bead. Wear it with bead!
